Tanya L. Kindel, Psy.D. is a Licensed Psychologist focused on helping adults and older adolescents. She utilizes an individualized holistic approach to help her clients connect with their true self and heal unhelpful patterns causing distress. Tanya works with the client to gain present awareness of what is happening in the body-mind and move through steps to heal and create change. Her methods for therapy focus on internal compassion and relearning. She uses techniques from Internal Family Systems (Parts Therapy), Mindfulness, Bottom Up Trauma Healing, DBT, Somatic Experiencing, CBT, Emotion Focused Therapy, Nutrition and Movement.
Tanya specializes in helping clients struggling with disordered eating behaviors, weight management, trauma, anxiety, depression, body-image disorders, gender conflicts, and relationship challenges. She also has prior experience helping clients with many types of medical difficulties including cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine disorders, and various disorders in connection with the gut-brain axis. Tanya’s professional background includes working in a hospital setting, surgery clinic, primary care clinic, counseling center, forensic psychiatric hospital, private practice, and offering telehealth services during the pandemic.
Originally from Johnstown Pa, Tanya earned her B.A. in Psychology from Lycoming College. Her Masters and Doctorate are in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at DC. She has lived in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, DC-Virginia, and back to Johnstown before putting down roots here in the city she loves. Tanya enjoys activities with her husband and young children, yoga, social events, wine, music, dancing, and reading.
