Adeola Akinyemi, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

My ideal clients are children, adolescents and adults who experience anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), adjustment/transition issues, self-esteem issues, autism, and grief and who struggle with negative self-talk, boundary setting and communication with social supports. Their needs include having a safe space filled with empathy, care and a listening ear to reflect on their personal experiences and explore their goals towards a healthier well-being. Many times clients feel misunderstood and invalidated and are in need of a non-judgmental space to grow and feel seen in, which therapy can provide.

I offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. I have experience providing individual and group therapy sessions across various age groups and have worked in a variety of settings including schools, afterschool programs, residential programs/summer camps and college campuses with clients across a lifespan. I take a strengths-based approach to therapy in order to empower clients to explore strengths and skill building within themselves. I am intentional about meeting clients where they are at, ensuring comfort and growing with them to reach their goals and needs of support. I utilize various modalities including, but not limited to, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy and Play Therapy.

A little bit more about me: I’m Nigerian-American and was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I graduated from Boston University with my Masters in Social Work as a Clinical Practice Major with a specialization in Children, Youth and Families. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a double minor in History and Pre-professional Health from SUNY Brockport. I am a proud first-generation college graduate and enjoy conducting and reading about research. I enjoy the performing arts like dance, theatre, music and visual arts. In my free time, I enjoy watching live theatre plays, musicals, dance performances, cooking and reading.
