Tricia Smith, LPC

Tricia is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has practiced in the field for over 25 years.  She brings with her a wealth of knowledge from diverse experiences in a number of settings including community outpatient mental health treatment, mobile therapy for children and families in the community, adult partial hospitalization, residential treatment for adjudicated youth and counseling for trauma survivor treatment center.  Prior to entering the counseling field, Tricia was a clinical dietitian at a teaching hospital.  While counseling clients on nutrition she developed an interest in understanding the psychology behind disordered eating habits and in pursuing a master’s degree to be able to address mental health issues.

Tricia seeks to guide clients through their therapeutic journey. She focuses on providing a sense of positive regard, respect and genuine belief in each client’s ability to heal and progress in achieving their life goals.  She has a person-centered approach which is individualized and draws from a number of modalities including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral and humanistic.  Additional tools used in treatment include the use of trauma focused CBT and mindfulness strategies.

Tricia Smith, LPC specializes in helping clients with diverse issues including depression, Bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive disorder, ADHD, disordered eating and thought disorders.  She also specializes in working with clients going through significant life changes and experiencing grief/loss issues.

Tricia originally is from Western Pennsylvania, though she lived and worked in North Central PA in the earlier stages of her career.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and after working for several years as a clinical dietitian, enrolled in Marywood University to complete her M.A. in Counseling.  Tricia enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, cycling or even just working on landscaping.  She also enjoys watching her daughter’s endeavors in tennis and in multiple orchestras as a cellist.
