I would start with providing a nonjudgmental environment to the client, I would ask the client how he/she would like to be addressed and develop good rapport from the beginning of the visit. Being an active listener will enable improved communication and outcomes. As a provider, having empathy is crucial when interacting with clients. Providing treatment options to clients will allow them to take control of their treatment. Educating the client on the importance of treatment adherence becomes an essential part of the treatment plan as well.
I want my patients to be comfortable communicating to me, to know I am not here to judge them, to feel safe talking to me, and to know I truly care for their well-being. I want to offer my patients with empathetic, genuine, non-judgmental, and honest feedback in goals to provide best quality care.
