Phillip Mlongecha, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

I am a counselor at our Haverhill clinic who provides therapy services!

As a therapist with experience supporting clients who struggle with anxiety and depression, my ideal client is a child, adolescent, or young adult navigating emotional distress that significantly impacts their daily life. They may present with persistent worry, low mood, difficulty regulating emotions, or a general sense of being overwhelmed. These clients often feel stuck—disconnected from themselves or others—and are seeking relief, clarity, and direction. Their needs include a safe, supportive space to process their thoughts and emotions, practical tools to manage symptoms, and guidance in building confidence and emotional resilience. Their goals typically involve reducing anxiety or depressive symptoms, improving emotional regulation, strengthening relationships, and developing a clearer sense of identity and purpose. Ultimately, they want to feel more in control of their lives, more connected to who they are, and more hopeful about the future.

With a strong background in treating anxiety and depression in both children and young adults, I offer a compassionate, evidence-based approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. My specialty lies in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported as they navigate emotional challenges. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based techniques, and strength-based approaches to help clients develop practical coping skills, regulate their emotions, and build self-awareness.

For children, I incorporate age-appropriate strategies such as play-based interventions and emotional education to support self-expression and emotional growth. For young adults, I focus on helping them explore identity, manage stress and life transitions, and break patterns of negative thinking. Whether it’s supporting a child struggling with big emotions or guiding a young adult through anxiety, low mood, or self-doubt, I am committed to helping clients feel more empowered, confident, and hopeful. My goal is to walk alongside them as they build the tools they need for lasting emotional wellness.

I want my clients to know that beyond my clinical training, I bring a deep sense of empathy, cultural understanding, and lived experience to the work we do together. As a young African man who grew up in an immigrant community, I understand the complexities that can come with navigating multiple identities, cultural expectations, and the pressure to succeed while silently struggling inside. I am culturally competent and practice with cultural humility—meaning I will never assume your experience, but I will honor it, listen deeply, and walk with you through it.

I thrive in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and believe that therapy should be a space where every part of you—your story, your culture, your values—is welcomed and respected. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, or emotional overwhelm, know that you don’t have to go through it alone. Reaching out for help takes courage, and I’m here to meet you with compassion and support.

If you’re ready to begin your healing journey, or if you’re simply curious about what therapy could look like for you or your child, I invite you to reach out. I’d be honored to walk alongside you!
