Mental Health Counselor Intern
My ideal client is someone who’s working through an experienced trauma as they attempt to navigate through life with this experience that’s changed them inside and out. This ideal client is someone who’s motivated to work through their traumatic experienced, is open to exploring difficult emotions, is willing to engage in therapeutic exercises, and is an active participant in the process. I wish to utilize approaches such as TF-CBT to help address the needs of clients who’ve experienced trauma and create a safe space for the client to confront their traumatic memories while developing the necessary coping skills to utilize when exposed to the associated stimuli outside of sessions. This ideal client would need guidance and assistance to learning how to live life again while managing their anxiety and stress when faced with the traumatic stimuli to better their quality of life.
Though I’m a graduate student in a Master’s program working on her MA in Clinical Psychology, I wish to help by utilizing the therapeutic approaches and techniques I’ve learned throughout my academic career and continue to grow in my confidence in utilizing them and knowing what to use depending on the clients’ presenting concern/problem. I currently have no specialty, but have confidence in the utilization of CBT and MI strategies.
I wish to be transparent with the clients and let them know that I’m a student who’s still working on her credentials to practice therapy. I’m open to learning throughout my experience at Northeast Health Services and growing in my experience as a therapist. I’ll also take into account clients’ concerns of working with me and providing a safe space for us to build a therapeutic relationship and to show that I will be doing my absolute best to provide the best therapeutic support I can.
