Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I am a clinician at our Chelsea clinic who provides therapy services!
My ideal client would be from a marginalized community struggling with trauma, which would likely come with depression and anxiety. They may also struggle with substance use, causing issues in their social or work life. In terms of specific identities, they could be Hispanic or black and part of the LGBTQ+ community. My ideal client would have grown up or is growing up being discriminated against due to their identities and struggles to “fit in.” They can become overwhelmed with life’s responsibilities. My client wants to learn how to best cope with their mental health struggles and figure out how to manage their work/social life.
I would first offer DBT exercises that focus on bottom-up approaches, which prioritize the body and finding a sense of safety. Once they have acquired somatic skills to help ground, I would offer trauma-informed CBT with the use of motivational interviewing skills to also put some focus on their goals and the strengths they already have.
I care and sincerely appreciate working with them. If it is appropriate, I want them to know that I have also gone through my struggles and have experienced discrimination due to my identities.
