Emily C. Lee, M.A., LMHC-Candidate

Mental Health Counselor

My ideal client is someone who is looking to partner together with a goal of experiencing a greater level of freedom and healing. Whether you are facing a significant stressor or transition in life, recognizing patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are keeping you stuck, navigating challenging relationships with others, or experiencing distress related to a persistent mental health condition, I am eager to create a safe and trusting space for you to be transparent. I operate with a mindset of balancing acceptance and validation with gentle confrontation to take manageable steps towards growth.

In my clinical experience thus far, I have worked primarily with adults living with diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, various anxiety disorders, and various personality disorders. I am particularly experienced in working with Veterans of various eras, with an emphasis on experiences such as moral injury and military sexual trauma (MST). I am eager to both lean into these strengths as well as expand my practice to work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and presentations.

My approach is very person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented. I recognize that while I have specialized training, my clients are the experts and remain autonomous in creating meaningful goals and action steps for therapy. My desire is to empower my clients to live more meaningful lives. What recovery means to one client may differ significantly from what recovery means to another, and that is the beauty of working with unique individuals.

I am also experienced with and very passionate about integrating one’s spiritual beliefs into mental health treatment, as I recognize how one’s spiritual journey can serve as either a source of strength and/or pain and impacts how we make sense of our experiences.

While I am constantly learning, some modalities I currently draw from more frequently include:

-Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
-Dialectical Behavior Therapy
-Motivational Interviewing
-Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

I am also a trained Prepare-Enrich marriage counseling facilitator and am eager to work with any couples preparing for marriage or looking for tools to enrich and enhance their existing marriage.

Please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns as you explore who you would like to work with!
