Darina Khusainova, MS

I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults grappling with emotional and psychological challenges such as depression, anxiety, attachment and relationship issues, cultural adaptation, complex trauma, and childhood trauma. If you know what shame feels like, if you are a deep feeler who’s almost constantly overwhelmed or an over-thinker who struggles to sit alone with your emotions, if you are feeling “stuck”: with therapy and compassion, we can reconnect you with your emotions and your body.  I am a trauma-informed therapist and I work within the relational approach. I also like to integrate the elements of other therapy methods, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, expressive arts, and somatic work, to tailor our session to your personal strengths and needs. By taking a bottom-up approach to therapy, I aim to help you feel at home in your body, release built-up stress, help you learn healthy emotional regulation, and build a positive sense of self.
I work well with clients who are ready to do the deep work to address their life stressors and/or heal from their trauma. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where people can feel understood and validated, along with learning practical coping skills to manage their symptoms.  I believe we, as humans, are highly adaptive and our problems make sense, and that many of our difficulties started off as solutions to help us stay safe and survive. I believe in non-coercive, collaborative, and neurodiversity-affirming mental health care. I am here to empower my clients to take control of their lives and foster their personal growth and healing from past trauma. I bring not only my professional expertise but also a genuine passion for helping and the personal experience of a first-generation immigrant. Beyond my role as a therapist, I’m an advocator for mental health awareness and intersectional social justice.
