Amanda Springer, LICSW

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker | Clinic Director

My ideal client is someone who has made their own decision to begin seeking help, and wants to figure out their own path to overall well-being. I think that this looks different for each individual seeking services, and I aspire to help the clients I work with build the path that feels right for them. I enjoy working with clients who experience psychosis, mood disorders, and personality disorders- though I am willing to work with anyone who has a desire to be well. I think that often, individuals with major mental illness are stigmatized and lost between the cracks of the mental health system and I want to help bridge that gap. To me, an ideal client will have an open mind and willingness to try new methods of change, even if they seem scary or silly.

I have worked in multiple different mental health environments including: inpatient, outpatient, addiction, day treatment, communities, and residential homes. This varied experience has allowed for me to understand the ways in which people experience different barriers when seeking services. With this lens, I am able to see a bigger picture of wellness, and how different and non-linear recovery is for each person. I have implemented range of therapeutic models in my work, including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I feel that therapeutic conversation should be driven by the person being served, and facilitated by the person offering services. This approach has allowed for individuals I have worked with to feel more in control and independent, which is my ultimate goal. Further, I have a strong harm-reduction lens, leaning into the idea that there is no “right” way to heal, it just has to feel comfortable and safe for you to go about your journey. I like to believe I have a great sense of humor which allows therapeutic work to be more personable and real.

At the end of the day, each of us is so unique and offers a very broad perspective on life. I am not the expert on your life or the experiences you have had: you are. Though, I do feel that it is my mission to ensure that each person I serve knows that their situation doesn’t have to be permanent if they do not want it to be. We are all capable of change, and sometimes we just need the guidance to help initiate a new path. I maintain a non-judgmental and empathetic lens in order to ensure that all the clients I work with feel safe enough to be vulnerable and honest with not only me, but themselves. The journey to acceptance, change, and self-care is an uphill journey that starts with you, so let’s get you where you want to be and have a few laughs along the way.
