Licensed Mental Health Counselor | Clinic Director
Hi! My name is Alison, and I am the Clinic Director at the Haverhill, MA site.
I work with all ages children, teens and adults. I enjoy working with clients who are open to learning and trying new methods. I am an out of the box thinker and love brainstorming solutions. I enjoy teaching creative ways to cope with stress such as art therapy or Tai-Chi. We are living in times of high stress, overwhelm, burnout and fatigue. Anxiety is at an all time high for many people and this can lead to feeling stuck or frozen. I love working with clients who are up for learning new skills in session and have a willingness to try those skills out in the world when needed. I also specialize in trauma and narcissistic abuse. If you are ready to learn, heal and grow with a creative twist then I might just be the therapist for you.
I graduated Lesley University in 2009 with a degree in Expressive Therapies. I teach clients how to incorporate art, movement, dance, music, story-telling and sound healing into their sessions. No talent required and it is the process that is therapeutic so we don’t focus on technical skill. I offer mindset coaching for people who experience negative thinking. I am trained in CBT which helps identify unhelpful thinking and reframe it to be more helpful. I also do DBT which teaches tolerance and coping skills. Mindfulness is also one of my favorite methods to teach. Guided meditation and breathwork can be a great way to shut off the stress response and experience a moment of relaxation. My motto is knowledge is power and I believe the more you know about your diagnosis the better you can navigate it. I provide education in my sessions and strive to empower clients.
Something to know about me is that I love humor, therapy should be a safe space where you can cry in comfort but also a space where you can have a hardy laugh. Laughter is the best medicine they say. I love nature and enjoy teaching clients some local places where they can go for a trail walk or sit by a quiet pond.
