Master’s Level Therapist
The ideal criteria for my client would actually have more to do with their personal objectives and internal characteristics. For example, my ideal client would come with the capability for insight into their own struggles and would furthermore have the abilities necessary to gain enough utility from psychodynamic tools. In terms of objectives my ideal client could come in with any issue but would not have needs exceeding what happens in the clinical space. I would also synergize well with a client who would be comfortable with working towards concrete personal goals ranging from learning about the benefits of mindfulness and exercise to psychoeducational goals, and everything in between (including making specific goals for work or relationships).
My perspective on counseling and how I see myself as a therapist/counselor can be summarized as me being a very clear mirror that my patients use to see themselves. As a result, I am capable of helping patients build goals and can sit with them as they talk about their issues, but I excel at framing what they say in a way that may not have been considered to induce insight. I also take a particular interest in fitness/meditation which has practical utility in sessions.
I can assure my patients that if you enter the therapy space with me that you will have my automatic respect for doing so. With me we can build a powerful therapeutic relationship to explore complex issues which leads to the disentanglement of the complicated and difficult situations you find yourself in.
