Lauren Couture, M.Ed, CMHC

Clinical Mental Health Counselor

I am a clinician at our Milford clinic who provides therapy services!

I do not have an ideal client in terms of issues/needs/goals. Ideally, my client will show up to sessions and want to participate in their treatment. I have enjoyed working with clients of all ages, presenting problems, cultures, and belief systems. Learning about a variety of populations has been the factor that inspires me the most about this career. I do not want to put myself in a box, and I am open to working with just about any client who will walk through the door. I enjoy the challenge and the push. If I do not know something, I will learn it and take the time to make absolutely sure that I am providing competent care to each client. This is the beginning for me, and I want to take every opportunity that comes my way to walk alongside an individual in their therapeutic journey.

I have had the opportunity to work with many populations over the last 5 years. I have worked closely with people managing severe and persistent mental health issues, substance misuse, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ASD, and general outpatient care. Due to my personal experience, specialization in my undergrad, and many hours of training, I would consider myself the most specialized in substance use disorder and co-occurring disorder counseling.

My decision to become a counselor is rooted in my deep understanding of both trauma and healing, as well as my passion for helping others navigate life’s various challenges. I strive to empower individuals to navigate their experiences, build coping skills, and foster resilience to face adversity with confidence. My counseling approach is informed by a social justice perspective, recognizing the interconnectedness of individual well-being and systemic factors. Additionally, my approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, authenticity, and a commitment to creating a safe space where each individual feels valued, heard, and respected.
