Catherine Givens, MSW, ACHP-SW, LICSW

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

After nearly 40 years as a Clinical Social Worker, I have come to appreciate and respect the importance of a “good fit” between therapist and client. While my knowledge and experience are very important to making sure that my clients receive the most effective, innovative, and client-centered care to address their needs, I am committed to ensuring that my clients feel safe, understood, and hopeful that the work we do together is on the right path and that we are headed in the right direction. Without that trust, it is very difficult to settle-in and focus on what my clients identify as their goals in therapy.

With 39 years as a Social Worker, I have worked with all ages, from children to older adults. I am committed to working with clients facing life changes, like college, marriage, divorce, retirement and end-of-life. Along with these life changes come emotional symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and other struggles that can interfere with moving forward.

I’ve seen profound changes when client and therapist work together. I believe that the client is the “driver,” while the therapist offers knowledge, experience, and a commitment to being present. I believe that the therapist must make every effort to understand the client’s experiences, including cultural factors that influence clients’ unique perspectives.
