Blondel Jarvis, FNP-BC

As an FNP, I look at a patient as a whole being. It is essential to conduct a comprehensive health exam. Questions will be asked about the patient’s physical health. I will make sure a PCP follows the patient and, if not, make referrals as necessary. In light of working in a psychiatric specialty, I assess the patient’s psychological well-being, which includes their mental health and stress management, and offer treatment per findings. It is important to use therapeutic communication by actively listening and showing empathy to the patient, encouraging the patient to build trust, and encouraging the patient to express their thoughts and feelings. I offer care that covers the diagnostic problems in psychiatry, namely depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), Anxiety disorders, ADHD, ADD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Alcohol abuse, substance use disorders, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, Disruptive behavior disorders, etc.

I believe in holistic care and homeostasis, and to obtain both holistic care and homeostasis, it is important to collaborate with other healthcare providers, including mental healthcare providers, social workers, dietitians, and counselors, to create a comprehensive care plan. It is important to regularly review the patient’s progress and make necessary adjustments to their care plan to ensure they are moving toward achieving homeostasis. Of paramount importance is the empowerment and education of the patient by involving them in their care decisions and educating them about how their lifestyle choices and environment affect their health. By addressing each of these dimensions, I can help the patient achieve a balanced state of well-being and homeostasis, supporting their overall health in a comprehensive and compassionate manner.
