Erina Cordeiro, CMHC Intern

Clinical Mental Health Counselor Intern

My ideal demographic would be servicemembers, veterans, first responders, and their families. Issues would be depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, communication issues, family issues, anger issues, and intimacy issues. Their goals would be to work towards a happier and healthier life and to make genuine connects.

My approach is focused on guiding clients in personal growth, enhancing their emotional state and by challenging and changing negative core beliefs about themselves. My goal is for my clients to live happier, healthier lives and build genuine connections with others. My approach encompasses the theory that most individuals’ problems and issues are a product of past relationships and how they have affected the individual’s growth and development of their core beliefs. I believe nature and nurture influence an individual wellbeing and biological factors, social interactions, and environmental influences mold an individual throughout their life.

An effective counselor is something that I am striving to become. To me an effective counselor is a person that is genuine, caring, empathetic, an active listener, with a dash of tough love. The counselor must be respectful, ethically responsible, aware of their own biases and keep it out of the sessions. They should encourage and guide a client to a healthier happier life, while supporting them even when they stumble and challenge the client when it is necessary for growth and enlightenment.
