Mei-Lien Swanson, MA

I have a strong passion for working with clients from middle childhood through young adulthood, although I thoroughly enjoy working with clients from different stages of their lives. I am motivated to support individuals who might struggle with, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship struggles and stress management.

I enjoy using a person-centered approach which emphasizes and encourages clients to, find their voice, build their self-esteem, improve relationships, gain a sense of identity and express emotions. As the therapist, I want to support clients by providing a safe and nonjudgmental space. I also enjoy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify their thinking patterns, or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help clients identify healthy coping mechanisms when they start to feel dysregulated.

Throughout graduate school an important saying that stuck with me was, “meet your clients where they are at.” For me, that means to not rush the client right in to disclosing vulnerable details. It means following the pace that the client is willing to go. It can be very difficult for clients to be vulnerable and share personal challenges. I value creating a strong therapeutic rapport with each of my clients, and attempt to gain your trust by, being reliable, authentic, open to collaboration, communicate effectively, and show respect. I strive to create a space for clients to feel safe and heard.
