Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker | Clinic Director

I’m James Patterson, LICSW, a therapist and behavioral health leader with over a decade of clinical experience. I am the Clinic Director at our Boston – Government Center clinic.

I work with teens and adults navigating mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use and behavioral addictions, recovery, family and relationship stress, identity concerns, and major life transitions, including the transition to adulthood and greater independence. My approach is strengths-based, person-centered, and collaborative, focusing on building on your existing strengths while developing practical tools for meaningful change.

I can help you make sense of difficult-to-change patterns and build practical solutions. My work draws from cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, solution-focused, and recovery-oriented approaches. I have particular experience with co-occurring disorders, substance use concerns, LGBTQ+ issues, family conflict, grief, stress, and the challenges of recovery.

Therapy works best when you can be honest without feeling judged or reduced to a diagnosis. I bring warmth, curiosity, humor, and a direct, compassionate style. We can start with what is happening now, identify what matters most to you, and build from there together. I look forward to working alongside you toward greater wellness and meaningful change.
