Shannon Berncic, LPC

Shannon Berncic is a Licensed Professional Counselor focused on providing adolescents, young adults, parents, couples, adults, elders, and families with the tools they need to achieve their own goals for overcoming emotional obstacles to living a fuller, more well-balance life.

Shannon brings a client-centered approach to counseling incoporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Reality Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Humanistic Therapy depending upon the client’s needs.

Shannon believes in establishing a trusting, supportive and genuine relationship with each client. Shannon’s emphasis is meeting the client where they are and focusing on what may be hindering their progress. By exploring past experiences and present day struggles together, Shannon guides the client to move forward in a more positive and healthy direction.

Shannon specializes in helping clients struggling with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, relationship issues, career transition, interpersonal and professional communication, dealing with conflict effectively, stress, self-esteem, anger management, recovery from traumatic experiences, adjusting to change/ life transitions, ADD/ ADHD, ODD, learning disabilities, shame, worry, young adult issues, life planning, and couples counseling.

Shannon’s professional background includes working within a diversity of settings including home and community-based services, behavioral health programs, outreach programs, healthcare agency, and the PA state vocational rehabilitation program.

Originally from West Virginia, Shannon obtained her BS Degree from West Liberty University.  She later moved to California and obtained her MS Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from California State University, Fresno.   In 2006, she moved back to the Pittsburgh area to be closer to friends and family. Shannon is a gym enthusiast, enjoys crafting healthy recipes from Pinterest, and taking her dog, Bailey, on walks throughout North Park with her husband.
